Assessing practitioner beliefs about software engineering

چکیده
Software engineering is a highly dynamic discipline. Hence, as times change, so too might our beliefs about core processes in this field. This paper checks some five that originated the past decades comment on relationships between (i) developer productivity; (ii) software quality and (iii) years of experience. Using data collected from 1,356 developers period 1995 to 2006, we found support for only one titled “Quality entails productivity.” We no clear four other based programming languages developers. However, sporadic evidence beliefs, learned narrow scope could delude practitioners misinterpreting certain effects hold their day-to-day work. Lastly, through an aggregated view assessing find act confounding factor productivity quality. Thus overall message work it both important possible revisit old engineering. Researchers should routinely retest beliefs.

Probing Software Engineering Beliefs about System Testing Defects: Analyzing Data for Future Directions
Research findings are often expressed as short startling sentences or software engineering (SE) beliefs such as “about 80 percent of the defects come from 20 percent of the modules” and “peer reviews catch 60 percent of the defects” [2]. Such SE beliefs are particularly important in industry, as they are attention-getting, easily understandable, and thus practically useful. In this paper we exa...
متن کاملDevelopment of a scale assessing Beliefs About ThirdHand Smoke (BATHS)
BACKGROUND Similarly to secondhand smoke (SHS), thirdhand smoke (THS) beliefs may be correlated with smoking behaviors and smokefree policies in the home. Thus, there is a need to develop and validate measures to assess beliefs about THS. METHODS A list of 19 items related to THS were generated by an expert panel and tested in a pilot study. Based on results from an exploratory factor analysi...
متن کاملAssessing Beliefs about 'Environmental Illness/Multiple Chemical Sensitivity'.
Knowledge representation was used to characterize beliefs in patients with Environmental Illness/Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (EI/MCS). EI/MCS patients, allergy and asthma patients, doctors and controls made relatedness judgments on concepts relevant to EI/MCS. Associative networks showed that EI/MCS patients viewed these concepts differently from others. Multiple chemical exposure was central...
متن کاملAssessing Teachers’ Beliefs About Social and Emotional Learning
Teachers are the primary implementers of social and emotional learning (SEL) programs. Their beliefs about SEL likely influence program delivery, evaluation, and outcomes. A simple tool for measuring these beliefs could be used by school administrators to determine school readiness for SEL programming and by researchers to better understand teacher variables that impact implementation fidelity ...
